Clinical Tips 8: Heroic Crowns

After endodontic treatment, or root canal therapy (RCT for short to us!) the standard of care to reduce the risk of fractures, is to place a full coverage restoration. This is usually in the shape of a crown or onlay.
This patient came to us having had amalgams placed after the endodontic therapy, or root canals, and surprise — the teeth fractured!
Thankfully, we were able to save the teeth by doing some heroic crowns!

We always try to remove amalgam under a rubber dam, since removing and drilling it can release mercury!
