Clinical Tips 12: Cronlay
This is one of the hardest things we treat – cracked teeth! This tooth became symptomatic after a ‘crack’ or popping noise while eating! The faster we get the restoration done, the best chance we get the symptoms under control without more treatment! Cracked teeth can be notorious, either needing cuspal coverage such as a crown or onlay or ‘cronlay’ as you will see here, to an RCT (root canal, endodontic therapy) to finally extraction and implant. The sooner we get to it, the better!

It starts with isolation! Rubber damn, and lets see what we are working with. Note the old filling, and the feature down the side.

We open the tooth up, and get rid of the decay under the old filling.

We extend and decide on a cronlay, a combination of a crown and onlay that covers the entire biting surface of the tooth.

We scan this restoration with our CEREC system to design and mill the restoration.
