Removable to Fixed Implant Transformation

What an amazing transformation! This phenomenal woman came to us after having had consults before and being told ‘no’ by other surgeons and dentists. She had an upper denture for over a decade, and wanted to get implants to get some stability! She told us she liked how she looked, that her denture looked like her, and she didn’t want to loose that ‘look’.

We explained to her she had a few options – either sinus lifts with trans-sinus implants with a 6 month healing period before we can use the implants, zygomatic implants with an oral surgeon, or transitional sinus lifts, 6 month wait, then 3 month wait before loading the implants. The only way she could get teeth in a day was to do zygomatic implants. She had no interest in being shunted between offices, and wanted everything to be done in house. No problem – we opted for the trans-sinus approach and were going to wait 6 months having hear still wear her existing denture before doing a second stage surgery to hook up the implants to a temporary. We used 18mm BioHorizons implants for the trans sinus approach to maximize the AP spread.

We also had to fix the occlusion on her bite – we need the teeth to be level to function well! We did some crowns on the lower right, and a single ‘shorty’ implant by BioHorizons on the lower left to level her occlusion. This was done while she healed from the upper first stage surgery.

The results? WOW! We are so happy with how this case turned out – and considering most of our cases are ‘same day’ this was a huge delay for the gratification!
