Snowboarding is dangerous (but fun!)
Some of my patients know that I am an avid snowboarder, and Dr. Bishop is a fantastic skier! It was nice to meet a fellow border, and be able to offer him a solution for his teeth nightmares!
He lost his upper teeth in a snowboarding accident, and had been in an upper denture for years. Other dentists had said he did not have much bone left to work with – which was true. He had a lower partial made, and never wore it. These are all common complaints about removable prosthetics, and one of the many reasons we dont do much of that type of work at Pinewood.

We took a CT scan, and this patient had JUST ENOUGH bone to do traditional all-on-6 implants, with the addition of two pterygoid implants we could get enough stability and minimize the cantilever.
We opted for the same prognosis on the bottom – but with the tapered short conical implants by BioHorizons. These implants are fantastic, I love the design of these MUA’s and how the tissue heals around them!

The biggest challenge we had with this case was that the patient kept breaking his temporaries, we did a take-home sleep test and he suffers from sleep apnea! We will be correcting that with a MAA (mandibular advancement appliance) to help him sleep better, which doubles as a night guard to protect his final restorations from damage at night.
Another case with careful planning and consideration of the bite, and some careful implant positions, with a fantastic result.
I didnt know when we got started with this case, but this patient is a bit of a big deal – he and his wife are influencers on Facebook!
