Upper Hybrid
This patient came to us and said what I have always joked I want to hear every day: ‘I know I want implants, I have seen your work, please give me a beautiful smile!’. OKAY!
We did our CBCT scans, and were happy to determine that she was a candidate for implants! Sadly, she did not have almost any posterior maxillary bone for us to work with. We also explained that for implants to be successful, the forces and bite have to be balanced so we would need to do a lower partial or lower hybrid to get her some posterior support. She wanted to focus on the upper arch first – no problem!
We brought her in under oral sedation, and while she slept, we removed the old broken teeth and bridges, and placed our 6 implants. We utilized BioHorizons Pterygoid implants to get AP spread and to remove the cantilever on the maxilla.
She healed for 3 months on a soft diet. One of the issues we ran into with her case is that the screws on the temps kept coming loose! She was aware she grinds her teeth, so we made sure to reposition the teeth a bit for her finals, and administered botox at the 2 week mark post-surgery, and right before we scanned for her finals. With botox and some movements of the occlusion, we were able to keep all the screws tight! Many people suffer from grinding or clenching and dont even know that is abnormal, botox administered by Dr. Katie Fadler has been a huge game changer for our practice both with implants and without!
Our results? Fantastic! She loves her smile, huge shoutout to Synrgy labs for the beautiful ceramic work! We did a titanium hybrid prosthetic here with individual crowns for better esthetics and strength due to her screw-loosing history!
